WIGAN-BASED HAULAGE FIRM SPONSORS

LAND SPEED RECORD TEAM

The BLOODHOUND Project, The UK’s 1,000 miles per hour Land Speed Record team, has today announced that Wigan-based haulage company G & J Lockwood Ltd is supporting their national and international haulage requirements. The contract, will involve transporting the 12.8 metre show car, equipment and, when built, the 5.5 tonne car, from the Bristol workshop to UK events and runs in the UK and abroad. At the end of 2009, the BLOODHOUND Project will announce where in the world the record attempt will take place. The Land Speed Record attempts are usually run at locations that are remote and difficult to access by road, making G & J’s contribution all the more critical. The current world land speed record sits at 763 mph, set by Andy Green and a team headed up by Richard Noble in 1997 on the Black Rock Desert, USA.

Graham Lockwood, Director of G & J Lockwood Ltd said: “We got involved with the Bloodhound Project after a chance meeting with Andy Green down at the RAC’s headquarters in London. He was giving a talk about the project and I sat there thinking ‘this guy is nuts – planning to drive a car at over 1,000mph.’ But as he continued I began to think ‘this is awesome – we just have to get involved in this.’” Graham said “G & J Lockwood were thrilled to be involved in such a Project: “It’s not just about building a car capable of exceeding 1,000mph. The main aim is to encourage young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. If we can help promote education by transporting the BLOODHOUND Project around the world, then we are truly making a difference.” Richard Noble said: “G & J Lockwood’s expertise is going to be essential to making this project work.
The pair have put together a team to smash this record and raise the bar to 1,000 mph.G & J Lockwood, based in Appley Bridge, Wigan, is a specialist international haulage and UK transport and distribution company, servicing a number of large UK based retail companies.
